Sacciolepis Nash (Poaceae, Panicoideae, Paniceae) is a pantropical genus formed by 23 species, mainly distributed in Africa, and also present in America, Asia and Australia. The aim of the present work is to test the monophyly of Sacciolepis and to explore its intrageneric relationships. A matrix containing 31 taxa and 81 morphological characters (including 19 continuous characters) was constructed and analyzed under the maximum parsimony criteria. The monophyly of  Sacciolepis was corroborated and diagnostic characters were defined. This paper constitutes the first phylogenetic approach of Sacciolepis.
