Resumen:
Mario Corea was an appreciated student of Fumihiko Maki in the GSD, Harvard (1963/4). In Maki?s design studio, Corea with Jan Wampler and Gustavo Munizaga developed some hypothesis on Open Ended Systems based on the structural and formal relevance of some ?linkages? (city room, city corridor and parking plazas) in the project of a Communication System for Central Boston. The paper analyzes Corea?s development of those concepts in Argentina amidst a growing radical turn in Latin American culture and politics. It examines the 1967 competition entries of his students to the XI UIA Congress in Prague and the SUMMA tender on collective housing, and Corea?s proposals for the Rosario University Campus (1971/3), public hospitals contests (1971) and Santiago de Chile urban renewal (1972). In parallel, he developed an interesting theoretical production that introduced social praxis and organized participation to the narrative on collective form converging in Corea?s proposition of a Trans Functional Design based on a key concept of the Metabolist Manifesto (1960): jinko tochi, artificial land. Urban linkages as megaforms and generative typologies will return in Corea?s practice for the socialist government in Santa Fe province since 1997.
