Resumen:
Infection by Bunyamwera (BUNV) and Kairi (KRIV) viruses has been detected in sheep, goats, cows, horses and humans all the way through America. In Argentina (Cordoba City) neutralizing antibodies against these viruses have recently been detected in free ranging birds for the first time. Due to these antecedents it has been decided to study the circulation of these bunyaviruses in free ranging birds in northern Cordoba province near La Para City, Mar Chiquita, through detection of neutralizing antibodies in sera of 299 birds between 2006 and 2007. The seroprevalence to VBUN was 9.32% (2006) and 11.42% (2007), while for VKRI was 1.4% (2006) and 0.67% (2007). Neutralizing antibody titers ranged from 20 to ≥320 for both viruses. Seropositives individuals from 14 species belong to 9 families were found infected by this virus in the two years of study. From the results we can conclude that the prevalence of infection by VBUN and VKRI in birds in La Para city was susteined through the two years and that there was a wider circulation of BUNV than of the KRIV in the area.
