Resumen:
The levels of hepatic CYP1A and CYP3A, together with the activity of the GST, superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), glutathione reductase (GR), catalase (CAT) and glucose-6-phosphate-dehydrogenase (G6PDH) were assessed in the gill and liver of Odontesthes bonariensis caged in two Pampas’ lakes associated to different land uses. One-year old O. bonariensis obtained from the Technological Institute of Chascomús (INTECH) Aquaculture Station were simultaneously caged during one week at the Chascomús Lake (CHA) and Lacombe Lake (LAC). CHA is associated to an urban area and partially receives the discharge of the raw sewage of Chascomús City (34,980 people). On the other hand, LAC is placed within a rural area under extensive livestock and agriculture practices. Results showed a significant reduction of hepatic CYP1A protein levels (30.0%) and CAT activity (25.1%) in CHA fish compared with LAC fish. Conversely, activity of hepatic SOD and GPx were significantly higher (28.9 and 75.5 % respectively) in fish caged at CHA. No significant differences were observed in the levels of CYP3A protein and the activities of GST, GR, and G6PDH in the liver of fish kept in both lakes. In the gill, none of the studied enzymes showed site-dependent activity changes. This study shows the existence of differences in the status of detoxification and antioxidant enzymes in the liver of Odontesthes bonariensis caged in the studied Pampa’s lakes, characterized by a reduction in the level of some important detoxification enzymes associated with an increase of the antioxidant activity in the urban influenced lake respect to the rural lake.
