Resumen:
Pain is a multidimensional experience engaging?and being influenced by?affect and emotions.Pain perception is encoded by the coordinated activity of distributed brain regions.Activity in the ACC is related to the affective connotation of pain.ACC neuronal activity is necessary for the manifestation of pain-related negative affect in rodents.Chronic pain syndromes are associated with altered ACC responses to nociception.Aberrant neuronal plasticity in the ACC contributes to the expression of nociceptive sensitization, negative affect, and mood disorders related to chronic pain in animal models.
