Resumen:
: Ethanol steam reforming process is a promising source of hydrogen, since it can be produced from renewable sources. In addition, ethanol exhibits other advantages such as easy storage and transport, biodegradability and low toxicity in case of leakages, and a close CO2 cycle. The ethanol steam reforming reaction (C2H5OH + 3H2O ?¨ 6H2 + 2CO2) involves a complex reaction system. In the steam reaction conditions other side reactions can occur (dehydration, dehydrogenation, etc.) producing undesirable compounds like, ethylene, acetaldehyde, carbon monoxide and carbon deposit. [1]. Since CO is a poison for fuel cell electrodes, a current goal of the research for this process is the development of a catalyst which maximizes the H2 production with a minimum CO formation. In this work, a supported NiIIAl hydrotalcite-like compound was used as catalyst for the steam reforming of ethanol at 773 and 823 K, using different operating conditions.
