Resumen:
During the last years the production of glycerol has markedly increased, as a consequence of the increasing biodiesel production from oil transesterification process. Therefore glycerol international market price has dropped. In addition, hydrogen has gained relevance as an energy vector due to its application in fuel cells and the diminishing fossil fuel reserves and environmental concerns. Then in this context it seems promissory to study different applications for glycerol, as hydrogen o syngas gas production from glycerol steam reforming. The global reaction for this process is: Ni based catalysts supported over alumina are widely employed for steam reforming reactions, mainly because their costs are significantly lower in comparison to the ones of noble metal based catalysts. A Ni based catalysts supported over Al2O3 modified with Mg(II) has been developed in our group with which it was possible to attain high glycerol conversion to gaseous products in a temperature range between 500°C and 600°C. However coke formation is one of the most common causes of catalysts deactivation in reforming reactions. It is known that the nature of the support, metal and employed operative conditions affects catalysts stability. The aim of this project it to execute a systematic study of carbon formation process during the steam reforming of glycerol over Ni-Mg/Al2O3 catalysts previously prepared. To this end, catalyst behavior under different reaction operatives condition is been evaluated and used catalysts are analyzed by temperature programmed oxidation technique.
