Since its first detection in 1989, CTX-M-2 has become the most prevalent resistant marker in Argentina; in fact, CTX-M group 2 enzymes constitute the only cefotaximases reported along this country. A prospective one-month period study was conducted to analyze the current prevalence and eventual emergence of new cefotaximases in enterobacteria. A total of 1,586 enterobacterial isolates were recovered during October 2010 from patients at 15 hospitals in Argentina.
