Resumen:
New iron-molybdenum-titanium oxides were prepared by coprecipitation, impregnation and via sol-gel methods. These solids were characterised by elemental chemical analysis, N2 adsorption, powder X-ray diffraction, and FT-Raman spectroscopy, while surface acidity has been monitored by FT-IR study of pyridine adsorption. The sol-gel iron-molybdenum-titanium oxides were amorphous to X-ray diffraction and undetected by FT-Raman spectroscopy, as a result of the high dispersion achieved. All the solids were mesoporous; type IV isotherms wih type H2 hysteresis loops and high specific surface areas (ca. 100 m2 g-1) were found in the sol-gel solids, while those prepared by coprecipitation or impregnation exhibited type II isotherms with H3 hysteresis loops. Catalytic activity in methanol oxidation showed an appreciable large selectivity to methyl formante by the sol-gel samples, while the major product on the other catalysts was dimethoxymethane
