The effect of the substitution of the B-site cation in La1-xCaxCo1-yFeyO3 (x = 0, 0.2, 0.4; y = 0.1, 0.3, 0.5) perovskites has been studied, since these solids are very interesting as suitable catalysts in the complete oxidation of volatile organic compounds. The solids were synthesized by the citrate method and both the fresh and the used catalysts were characterised by means of different techniques such as BET specific surface areas measurements, X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS). Substitution for Co with Fe does not modify the preparation process of the perovskites but slightly changes the crystalline structure since the presence of traces of cobalt oxide are also observed. The reactivity of the catalysts in the propane and ethanol combustion was analysed on the base of the Ca and Fe amounts and interpreted from the structural and dynamic characterisation data.
