Resumen:
Mixed catalysts of manganese and cupper has been prepared by coprecipitation with a ratio Cu/Mn = 1, varying the ageing times among 4, 18, and 24 h. Samples were characterizated by XRD, SBET, FT-IR, TPR and XPS with the aim to determinate the physico-chemical and structural properties of them. In addition to the Mn2O3 and CuO oxides, a mixed phase Cu1.5Mn1.5O4 was observed whose formation is facilitated with the increase of the ageing time. The surface nature was studied by XPS, which indicated a surface enrichement of manganese.  This manganese would be highly disperse and so, it would be easily reducible. By means of a study with mechanical mixtures of the pure oxides, the high mobility of the manganese and its influence in the sample reducibility was corroborated. The catalytic activity was evaluated in the total oxidation of propane and ethanol, considered as model molecule of VOC. A relationship between the catalytic behavior and the catalyst reducibility was observed.
