Studying phytoplankton samples from several aquatic environments of Argentina, many morphologically sharply different specimens of the genus Lobocystis were recorded. This led to the revision of the genus, as a result of which two species are proposed: L. planctonica (Tiff. et Ahlstr.) Fott and L. neodicbotoma novo sp.
