Ponce 2, Olga I. Tarzi 2, Rosa Erra-Balsells 2, Hiroshi Nonami 1 Short Abstract: N-substituted monosaccharides were analyzed by UV-MALDI-TOF-MS and the [M+Na]+ ions were detected. Fragmentation of these compounds was studied by using the positive PSD mode. The spectra obtained were compared with those obtained by EI-MS. As UV-MALDI is softer than EI-MS, complementary information about the fragmentation was obtained. Most of early fragmentations yielded from the molecular ions previously suggested in EI-MS studies have been observed. For the first time, the intact molecular ions of some thermal non-stable carbohydrates have been detected by using an MS technique. For those compounds with the same molecular weight, its typical pattern of fragmentation can be used as fingerprint for future characterization purpose as databank reference.
