Resumen:
In previous work, a comparative study of antioxidant and antimicrobial properties of propolis from Apis mellifera collected monthly for one year in Calingasta, San Juan province, Argentina was done. The results indicate that ethanolic extracts of samples collected in summer have higher antioxidant and antifungal activity while the antibiotic power against methycillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus is similar in the four seasons of year. Therefore, were selected propolis collected in summer to develop an antibiotic/antifungal product of interest for the pharmaceutical and / or cosmetic industries. Hydrogels based on Carbopol 940 containing hydroalcoholic propolis extracts, antibiotics and antifungal commercial were designed. Samples from each pharmaceutical form were taken at different storage times, to evaluate its physical, chemical, biological and microbiological stability. The hydrogels were stable during the three months of storage at 25°C, showed no phase separation or the presence of exudates, keeping stable the color, smell, homogeneity, droplet size and pH. The hydrogel containing propolis extracts was stable from the microbiological point of view (there was no development of coliforms, fungi and yeasts) and functional(antimicrobial activity). The semisolid formulations containing propolis could be used in skin infections in topical applications.Apis mellifera collected monthly for one year in Calingasta, San Juan province, Argentina was done.
