Objetivo. Analizar las fuentes de estrés, y los estilos de afrontamiento
de las personas de edad que viven en sus
hogares y en instituciones
geriátricas públicas y privadas.
Metodología. Se siguieron los pasos del diseño
descriptivo-correlacional.
El Cuestionario de Datos Generales,
elaborado por las autoras,
y para evaluar las respuestas adaptativas
del adulto mayor frente
a las situaciones vitales estresantes,
fueron utilizados 36 ítems
del Cuestionario de Estilos de
Afrontamientos de Lazarus y Folkman
(1986), seleccionados por Stefani (2002), de
acuerdo con un estudio
factorial del instrumento (Folkman y cols,
1986) y con las dimensiones
de afrontamiento propuestas por Moos y
Biling (1982) índice de
bienestar psicológico estructurado por
Stefani (2002) fueron administrados
a 300 senescentes.
Resultados. El contexto habitacional en el adulto mayor
es uno de
los factores intervinientes en la
determinación de las fuentes de estrés
y de los estilos de afrontamiento de las
personas de edad.
Discusión. Los datos de esta investigación coinciden con otros estudios
y suman evidencia empírica con relación al
papel que cumple el
contexto habitacional en las fuentes de
estrés de la persona de edad.

Summary
Objective. To analyze in a critical-comparative way the sources
of stress and the
styles of confrontation of aged people living in
their homes against
those who live in public or private geriatric
institutions.
Methodology. The steps of the
descriptive-comparative design
were followed. The
General Data Questionnaire, drawn up
by the authors, and
the Questionnaire of Styles of Confrontation
by Lazarus and Folk
man (1986) were administered to 300 aged
people of which 150
lived in their homes and 150
in geriatric
institutions.
Results. The living context
in the aged adult is one of the factors
which intervene in
determining the sources of stress and the
styles of confrontation which
they use in the face of vital stressful
occurrences.
Discussion. The data of this investigation
coincide with other
studies and adds empirical
evidence with regard to the role of
the living context in sources of
stress in the aged person.
