The purposes of this study were to measure the attitudes toward old people, and to study the relationships between the score obtained with the Scale of Attitudes Towards Old People, and the variables of age and socio-economic level. The instruments used for the investigation were a questionnaire with personal data, the Social Position Index, and the Scale of Attitudes Towards Old Age, constructed by the present authors. The instruments were administrated to a sample of 190 subjects from Buenos Aires (Argentina), of both sexes, different ages, and different socio-economic status. Results indicate that the majority of the respondents present neutral and unfavorable attitudes towards old people, and that the variables of age and socio-economic status have a significant relation to the score obtained in the Scale.
