Contribution to the ecology of non marine ostracods (Crustacea) in Patagonia, Argentina

Ostracods and diatoms from aquatic habitats have  been seccessfully usedn to reconstruc palaeoenvironments and -climate from lake sediment cores. Information about the specific ecologies and taxonomy, however, is still limited in Argentina. Here we present results from coupled species abundance and water chemistry characteristics. from 41 sites in Patagonia; Laguna Cari-laufquen (48º-49ºS and 70º-7ººW). In lago Cardiel we additionally tested the relationship between  species abundances and water depth ranging between 5,5 and 32 m. Water samples were taken from each site and analysed fro temperature (ºC), pH, conductivity, as well as fro majr elementes including Ca, Na, K, Mg, Cl, SO4 s18O and d13C dic. Adults individuals fo ostracodes and species assemblages were identified. We then applied multivariate statistics to our calibration dataset, wich suggest that conductivity in the dominant factor in the ostracodes distribution within our dataset
