The ostracod fauna was studied from a shallow core on the Burdwood Bank, southwestern Atlantic Ocean. The age of the core is Late Pliocene and the ostracods ara all shelf dwellers, whose modern distribution extends from the Antartic northwards to the province of Buenos Aires, although Antartic forms predominates. This suggests a considerable influence of Antartic waters during the deposition of the core which may be related to changes in the position of the polar front during the Late Pliocene
