An object-oriented
framework to support the modeling and management of the process design process
is introduced. It naturally integrates the representation of both design tasks,
and the outcomes that are achieved as the result of design activities, that are
modeled as resources. Tasks are represented in terms of the goals they pursue
and the different types of resources they are involved with. Mechanisms to
explicitly represent task decomposition and temporal relationships among tasks
are provided. Moreover, both the modeling of the alternatives ways of
performing a given design task and the representation of the different endings
a design task may have are supported. The Version Administration Systems
introduced in this paper provides an explicit mechanism to manage the different
model versions being generated during the course of a design project as design
tasks are executed.
