Resumen:
This paper describes the development of a knowledge base system prototype (SERO) to aid process engineers in hazard and operability studies.Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP) is a methodologu to identify hazards and potential operation problems in process plants. In HAZOP studies, the process P+IDs are examined and possible deviations from the designer's intentions are discovered and considered in terms of their causes and consequences. Since HAZOP studies require many different kinds of knowledge sources it is necessary aflexible tool for knowledge representation. Therefore, the use of an object-oriented and rule-based environment is the natural option to capture the different types of knowledge that have to be represented in the system. The described prototype has been developed on KAPPA-PC (an object-oriented environment, running on a DOS-Windows platform, IntelliCorp Corp).
