Gender Quotas and Candidate Nomination: The case of the City of Buenos Aires  (1983-2007) Nélida Archenti, María Inés Tula and Laura Albaine Summary The City of Buenos Aires features an institutional landscape highly suitable for women’s political participation, especially in terms of its regulations regarding women’s access to the Legislature. In the light of such conditions, women’s probabilities of accessing parliamentary seats largely depend on the actions carried out by political parties when nominating candidates and placing them on the lists. This paper seeks to explore the gendered aspects of candidate nomination through an analysis of the parties’ official lists for legislative elections for the City of Buenos Aires  from the restoration of democracy to the last election (1983-2007). This will allow for an evaluation in terms of gender equality of the lists’ dominant structure and how this affects women’s electoral success.
