Resumen:
Trawling is a major concern worldwide and there isconsiderable debate about its impact on marineecosystems. The Patagonian Shelf Large MarineEcosystem (PSLME) is an important fishing area inthe Southwest Atlantic where bottom trawling isthe dominant fishing method. We investigated thedistribution of bottom trawl fishing within thisregion, defining the areas of highest trawling intensity(hotspots) and evaluating their relationshipwith marine fronts. We focused on the three mainoceanographic fronts, the shelf-break front, thesouthern Patagonia front and the mid-shelf front. To estimate fishing effort and trawled areas, weused VMS data from 2006 to 2012. Despite beingalmost a fully trawlable shelf, we found that thespatial distribution of trawling activity is patchyand trawling hotspots were small, comprising annually
