Glassy Magnetic Behaviour in a Nanostructured Cu-Fe-O system

Resumen:
A nanostructured material in which copper ferrite grains are in close contact with antiferromagneticα-Fe2O3 and CuO particles was obtained by ball milling an equimolar mixture ofα-Fe2O3 and CuO. On cooling down from room temperature, Mössbauer and magnetization measurements reveal the progressive blocking of the α-Fe2O3 and spinel particles magnetic moments, followed by a sudden freezing below 60 K. This temperature indicates the start of a new magnetic regime that displays spin-glass-like magnetic properties at the lowest temperatures.
