Mössbauer Study of Zn-Fe-O Phases.

This work is a study of the phases present in the Fe-Zn-0 system with nominalcompositions (Zn,,Fe,)O (x=0.01, 0.05, 0.20 and 0.30). The samples obtainedcorrespond to a mixture of ZnO, cu-Fe,O, and ZnFe,O,, in relative amounts that dependon x and on the heat treatment. For sintering temperatures above 5OO”C, cu-Fe,O,disappears and all the iron in the system goes into ZnFe,O,. Air-treated samples showiron only in the 3 + oxidation state while for samples treated in a reducing atmosphere,Fe’+ is reduced to Fe+2, which replaces Zn+* in the ZnO lattice .
