Resumen:
Semiterrestrial crabs possess a highly developed visual system and display conspicuous visual guided behaviors (e.g. Hemmi and Zeil 2003), however, relatively little was known until recently about the neural organization and cellular morphologies of crustacean optic neuropils. Among decapods, the crayfish was the single taxon from which optic lobe neuroanatomy was available in some detail (Strausfeld and Nässel 1980). In the last 15 years we have produced detailed anatomical data in Neohelice granulata, a species that has a highly developed visual system (Berón de Astrada and Tomsic 2002, Sztarker et al. 2005, 2009, De Astrada et al. 2011, Astrada et al. 2012, Sztarker and Tomsic 2014, Bengochea et al. 2018) The present chapter briefly describes the optical features and visual acuity of Neohelice, the anatomical organization of its optic lobes and the neural architecture of the visual neuropils
