Resumen:
Abstract. We studied the response of the garlic cultivars, Gostoso-INTA, Norteño-INTA, Perla-INTA and Sureño-INTA when they were virus-freed through meristem culture, with and without heat-treatment at 36ºC for 40 days (h/t and n-h/t, respectively). The elimination of Potyvirus: Onion yellow dwarf virus (OYDV) and Leek yellow stripe virus (LYSV); Carlavirus: Garlic common latent virus (GCLV) and Allexivirus: Garlic virus A (GarV-A) and Mite borne filamentus virus (MbFV) was assessed with immunosorbent-electron microscopy and decoration. In the cv Gostoso-INTA, Norteño-INTA and Perla-INTA no significant differences between h/t and n-h/t were detected. Only in the cv. Sureño-INTA was h/t significantly more efficient at freeing from all the viruses. In the cvs. Gostoso-INTA, Perla-INTA and Sureño-INTA, no significant differences were found between the five viruses analyzed. In the cv. Norteño-INTA more than 63% of the plants were freed from LYSV, OYDV, GarV-A and GCLV, and no significant differences were found between them. The MbFV was the most difficult to eliminate (13-18% virus-free plants) and there was a significant difference with the other viruses.
