Resumen:
The aim of this study was to characterize the expression ofglucocorticoid receptor (GR) in the components of normalbovine ovary and in animals with cystic ovarian disease(COD). Changes in the protein and mRNA expression levelswere determined in control cows and cows with COD by immunohistochemistryand real-time PCR. GR protein expressionin granulosa cells was higher in cysts from animals withspontaneous COD and adrenocorticotropic hormone-inducedCOD than in tertiary follicles from control animals. Intheca interna cells, GR expression was higher in cysts fromanimals with spontaneous COD than in tertiary follicles fromcontrol animals. The increase in GR expression observed incystic follicles suggests a mechanism of action for cortisoland its receptor through the activation/inactivation of specifictranscription factors. These factors could be related tothe pathogenesis of COD in cattle.
