Resumen:
Most of the studies on the biochemistry and structure of the CL have been directed toward to understanding  the  progesterone synthesis and release process. The present work intends to evaluate the histochemical composition by means of the lectinhistochemistry in the corpus luteum from rats at the end of pregnancy (days 18 to 23). We also analyze the luteinic cells morphology, trying to characterize the attributable changes to the regression in this organ. Seven biotinylated lectins were used (CON-A, WGA, DBA, SBA, PNA, RCA and UEA-I) following preset protocols (ABC method). The average diameter, the area’s cells and its nucleus were analyzed. A high reactivity of the luteals cells was observed with CON-A and in small grade WGA. The capillary endothelium evidenced positive reactivity with WGA and in small grade with SBA, PNA and RCA. Vesiculars structures  were observed, intensely marked with DBA, more abundant in the sections coming from the animals with pregnancy more advanced, which could be attributable to cellular remains, by the morphologic characteristics of them. There were not significant differences among the cytometricals variables analyzed, comparing the values corresponding to the different days of gestation to each other. Based on our observations and previous research we can conclude that at the delivery day, the rat CL is in very early stage of structural regression, without changes at morphological level, but with changes at biomolecular level.
