Localcommunityassemblyrulescanbedefined byevaluatinghow nativespecies? traits interactwithcommunity filters toaffectspeciesabundance. Evaluationofexoticspeciesagainstthisbenchmarkindicatesthatexotics thatfollowassemblyrulesbehavelikenatives,whilethoseexhibitingnovel interactionswithcommunity filters cangreatlyunderperformoroutper-form natives.Additionally,advantagesgainedbyexoticsovernativesfollowingdisturbance canbeexplainedbyaccountingforextrinsicassemblyprocessesthat biasexotictraitstowardruderalstrategies.
