We reply to the commentaries made by Chávez (in press): ?Observaciones sobre la presencia de Paraptenodytes y Palaeospheniscus (Aves: Sphenisciformes) en la formación Bahía Inglesa, Chile? (in this same volume) regarding our recently published paper in this journal (Acosta Hospitaleche & Canto, 2005). Despite the thorough discussion about our systematic assignment of several Chilean remains made by Chávez in his commentary of our article, he has never revised the materials directly in person, admitting to using a single photograph for the majority of his commentaries.  Apart from this issue, the data cited in his observations are not completely accurate as they are out of date and tend to lead his conclusions astray.
