Abstract. An articulated skeleton coming from sediments of the Gaiman Formation (Early Miocene), Chubut Province, Argentina assigned to Palaeospheniscus biloculata (Simpson) nov. comb. is described. The original diagnosis of this genus and species were emended. Eretiscus tonni (Simpson, 1981), Palaeospheniscus bergi Moreno y Mercerat, 1891, P. patagonicus Moreno y Mercerat, 1891, and P. biloculata (Simpson) nov. comb. are included in the ?Palaeospheniscinae? group, whose distribution is restricted to the Neogene of South America.
