Resumen:
Several recent papers (Geller et al. 1998, Whitton et al. 2000, Gross 2000) have emphasized the importance of studies on natural highly acidic environments, for comparison with acidic environments resulting from human activity. The waters from major springs near the summit of Copahue Volcano in Patagonia, Argentina, provide one of the most striking natural acidic environments. The present paper provides a brief overview of ongoing research, though it is based mainly on studies carried out in January 2000.
