Resumen:
Epipelagic telephinid trilobites rarely occur in theOrdovician of South America, being represented byfew specimens recorded from the ArgentinianPrecordillera, the Famatina Basin, eastern Puna andCordilleraOriental.Weherereportthenorthernmostoccurrences of the generaCarolinites andOopsites inthe Central Andean Basin, coming from the LowerOrdovician rocks of the Sella Formation of southernBolivia(Carolinitesgenacinaca Rosss.l.)andfromtheSanJoséFormationofsouthwesternPeru(Oopsites sp.nov).Thescarcerecordofthesetelephinidshasbeenrelated to warm water currents, that sporadicallymoving southwards along the Gondwanan margin,carrying palaeotropical trilobites into moretemperatetocool-waterhigherpalaeolatitudes.
