Resumen:
Electrospun mats are densely packed fiber layers, and the lack of space between adjacent layers creates a two-dimensional (2-D) sheet-like structure with superficial planar pores.1 Thus, the small pore size of typical 2-D nanofiber mats limits their use as scaffold for applications in tissue engineering.2 To overcome this drawback, a number of strategies with different effectiveness have been explored to develop 3-D electrospun nanofiber scaffolds with enhanced cellular ingrowth. Recently, gas-foaming technique (GF) was used to fabricate polymeric tissue-engineered scaffolds with enlarged pore size.3 In this work, 3-D polymer/bioceramic nanocomposite electrospun mats were obtained by post-electrospinning via GF process. A preliminary characterization of the expanded scaffolds is presented.
