Resumen:
Phenolic resins are well-known due to their excellent fire resistance and low smoke emission, as they form an insulating char during their thermal degradation. Nevertheless, the formaldehyde toxic emissions during the manufacture stage become extremely harmless to the ozone layer. Besides, the actual global polities tend to replace petroleum-derived materials and encourage the use of biomass wastes as raw materials instead. This work proposes a furan resin synthesized from fenol and furfural as an alternative. As the addition of nanoclays has been reported to improve several properties; three types of clays will be added as nanoreinforcements. The fire behaviour and smoke emissions will be studied to compare both resins and evaluate the effect of the nanoclays on the polymer behaviour.
