Resumen:
Various political imperatives and social demands have converged around history and its teaching since its inception as a discipline in modern Argentine schooling. Among these, a series of recurrent themes can be detected: memory, identity and citizenship. From the end of the nineteenth century and right through the twentieth, these issues acquired various meanings and they took shape with varying contents that, in general terms, can be grouped into two major stages: patriotic history and reformed history.
