Resumen:
To standardize a phyto-ingredient or a phyto-therapic or a phyto-cosmetic it is not only necessary to characterize it chemically but also from a functional or biological point of view. There are bioassays in vitro and in vivo that allow to know the potential antibiotic, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, inhibitor of enzymes such as tyrosinase, collagenase, hyaluronidase, elastase, among others. They are standardized tests used internationally that allow to compare the potency with other similar or different products. For safety testing, assays using eucariotic and procariotic systems could be used. When active chemicals and plants were chosen with safety and efficacy for human uses, then, the potential medicinal or cosmetic natural products will be produced. Based on these procedures, the producing cost will be cheaper and the products can be evaluated for their clinical properties.
