Resumen:
This paper deals with a thermal and energy analysis of a project for a energy self-sufficient house located in an extreme cold climate. Simulation results for energy and thermal performance will be discussed with the objective of evaluating the ability of climate-adapted architecture to deliver an intended functionality (comfort, architectural programme, aesthetics) under variable conditions (climate, occupation levels, activities, etc) through the design variables changing their physical values over time (passive strategies and active devices). The energy balance results in a Solar Saving Fraction of 57.8%. In winter, when Trombe walls are active, interior temperatures are within the comfort range even though minimum temperatures are between -5 to -10°C. In extreme climates, there is no doubt that the design of energy self-sufficient buildings is possible with the integration of energy efficient active technologies and passive design strategies.
