Resumen:
The singular properties of molecular materials provide new systemsand devices with potential use in nanomedicine. The obtaining of amorphousmultifunctional nanostructures based in coordination polymers offers a materialwith genuine and easily tailorable properties [1] The benefits from thecoordination supramolecular assembly allow obtaining nanoparticles with optical, magnetic and encapsulation properties [2] suitable to use in therapy anddiagnosis purposes. Our research group has focused in the synthesis, characterization and biomedical application of these nanomaterials. The recent results include the encapsulation of anticancer drugs and/or magneticnanoparticles, drug release control, and study of toxicity and anticancer activity. Moreover, the possibility of functionalization of their surface allows building newelegant biocompatible multifunctional platforms with interesting applications inmedicine for drug delivery, bioimaging and cell targeting. [3-5] The preliminaryresults indicate that these new nanosystems offer platforms with low toxicity, high cellular uptake, and smart responses to an external stimulus that open anew wide variety of possibilities to be used in therapy and diagnosis.
