This work is a taxonomic revision of the Southamerican genus Lucilia Cass. There are descriptions, illustrations and maps of geographical distribution for its twenty-two species. The genus Belloa Remy, Merope Wedd. y Pachyrhynchus DC. are reduced to synonymy of Lucilia. Two sections are recognized: sect. Lucilia y sect. Lucilioides DC., for the last one two series are proposed: ser. Lucilioides y ser. Paralucilia nov. ser. A key for the identification of sections, series and species is given, as well as a list of excluded and doubtful species.A complete synonymy and a list of the herbarium material examined are included for all the species. The systematic treatment is preceded by an analysis of morphological and anatomical characters: habit, stems, leaves, types of trichomes and stomata, corollas, style branches, phyllaries, anthers, achenes, pappi and capitula disposition.
