Resumen:
Water availability for maize depends on water at sown and rainfall during growing season. Rainfall variability could be influenced by ENSO phenomenon; which offers the potential to improve farmers’ decision-making. The objectives of this work were to i) verify the influence of ENSO on rainfall during critical period in two sites of Entre Rios Province (Argentina); and ii) evaluate the effects of planting date and Nitrogen fertilization in different climate scenarios using locally calibrated and validated crop simulation models (CERES-Maize; DSSAT 4.0). Cumulative rainfall In Paraná showed significant differences between climate scenarios only in late sowing date. Cumulative rainfall during maize growing season in Concepcion del Uruguay showed no significant differences between climate scenarios. Climate scenario, sowing date and nitrogen fertilization had a significant interaction over simulated yield in Paraná, while there was no interaction in Concepcion del Uruguay. Results suggest that climate scenarios have a low impact over maize critic period rainfall. However, simulated yield shows a higest sensibility to climate scenario. Late sowing date could be a valid management option to niña climate scenario, and sites where soil storage conditions affects crop water availability.
