Resumen:
Mouse models have been used to study the effects of genetic mutations, functional foods, changes in loading, and chemical treatments on changes in the biomechanical properties of bones. Therefore, it is important to have a reliable setup to measure the mechanical properties correctly. In this work, a novel setup based on a cantilever beam configuration was chosen to measure the bone elastic modulus and flexural strength. Grips were costume-made to adapt to the universal testing machine INSTRON. The displacement was measured with a video-extensometer. The femur elastic modulus was 12.46 ± 6.41 GPa and the flexural strength was 218.19 ± 215.53 MPa. These results agreed with data reported in the literature with different test configurations or new sophisticated machines.
