Resumen:
The objective of this work is to present a quantitative tool to support decision-making in the area ofoptimal design of the sugar/ethanol supply chain (SC). The problem is formulated as a multi-objective mixed-integer linear program simultaneously taking into account costs and environmental impact minimization at each stage of the production chain. The formulation is applied on a case study to find different SC configurations, confirming the existent trade-off between the objectives. The approach offers a valuable insight of the design problem, and a guide to adopt more sustainable strategic alternatives for such an important problem as the bio-refineries’ SC represents.
