Resumen:
Methane is chosen as the representative molecule of the gaseous mixture obtained by biomass pyrolysis or gasification due to its stable structure. The most effective and economic catalysts for methane steam reforming are Ni based catalysts. Nevertheless, it is well known that these catalysts suffer from fast deactivation caused by coke deposition. Catalysts are also strongly poisoned by sulfur compounds. The use of ceria-based materials has been proposed to reduce deactivation by carbon deposition. It was also reported that the addition of ceria to increases sulfur tolerance under reforming operating conditions. Therefore, in this work, hydrogen production by methane steam reforming is studied using nickel catalysts supported in ceria oxides doped with La, Pr, Gd and Zr.
