In this work it is developed a power law type kinetic model and, because of the difficulties related to the design of the reactor, a mechanism of reaction is proposed. This mechanism of the CO oxidation over CuO/CeO2 catalysts has been developed, finding that copper species change from Cu2+ to Cu1+ in the CO oxidation step and, then, from Cu1+ to Cu2+ in the ceria reduction step. Finally, Ce3+ is re-oxidized to Ce4+ with oxygen from gas phase. The kinetic expression derived from this mechanism can predict extremely well the reaction rate for different conditions.
