Resumen:
Growth rates of Mesodesma mactroides wereestimated comparing two different methods at the intertidal ofthe exposed sandy beach Santa Teresita, Argentina. Results ofa short tagging-recapture experiment using the in situfluorescent marking (MFI) method and subsequent sizeincrementanalysis were compared with results from lengthfrequencydistributions (DFT) analysis from a 25 monthquantitative sampling. Residuals, derived from MFI methodand DFT analysis, were of similar magnitude and distribution, suggesting that both methods are equally appropriate to estimategrowth of M. mactroides. Calcein was useful as non-lethalgrowth marker for M. mactroides, emitting a bright greenfluorescence band under blue light.Key words: In situ fluorescent marking, comparison of methods, daily growth rate, length-frequency distribution, overall growthperformance index
