Resumen:
S-nitrosothiols (RSNOs) have been known from the middle ofthe nineteenth century, but the first intentional synthesis andidentification was described in 1909 by Tasker and Jones.1 Due totheir low stability, RSNOs did not attract much attention until theirphysiological role, related to NO transport, was discovered.2 Forthe same reason, only limited structural data on these species havebeen reported. The structures of five RSNOs have been crystallographicallycharacterized thus far; they are: triphenylmethylthionitrite(Ph3C-SNO),3 S-nitroso-N-acetylpenicillamine (SNAP),4S-nitroso-triarylmethylthiol (TRM-SNO),5 S-nitroso-captopril,6 andS-nitrosonitrosylhemoglobin
