Environmental complexity of the region creates conditions for the establishment of spawning and nursery grounds for freshwater; estuarine-oriented; coastal; mid-shelf and outer-shelf fish species. Though most of them pertain to the pelagic eggs spawner guild, several species exhibiting other reproductive strategies are also present (bottom attached eggs; mouth brooders). Species with higher biomasses and commercial value are pelagic eggs spawners, and their spawning grounds are related to fronts. The richness of life-history modes must be considered as a component of the biodiversity of this region. Biological productivity and biodiversity emphasize the importance of this system for management and conservation issues.
