Resumen:
Living cells are able to change the environment in the vicinity of a metallic electrode and control its electrochemical response through parameters related to their physiological characteristics [1?2]. The electrochemical discharge of glucose on black platinum electrodes is enhanced by the presence of cells in relation with its ability to consume the dissolved oxygen [3]. The anodic potential of a black Pt electrode in contact with deoxygenated aqueous solutions of different carbohydrates is compared to that obtained when cells are present in the system. The difference, if any, will be correlated with the metabolic properties of the cells for each carbohydrate.
