Resumen:
L-phenylalanine (Phe) has shown to be capable of forming amyloid-like nanofibrillar structures under pathologically relevant concentrations associated with a diverse group of diseases such as Alzheimer?s, type II diabetes and prion disorders. Moreover, L-phe was able to produce damage to thylakoid membranes and induce solute leakage and membrane fusion under stress conditions. These effect have been associated with lipid-amino acid interactions [1,2,3]. In order to understand more about this process, it was studied the effect of the interaction of L-Phe on different biomimetic systems such as phosphocholine monolayers and liposomes. The data obtained shown that the amino acid would be inserted into membrane increasing the distance between the lipid molecules, reducing the degree of order of the dipoles in the membrane and creating a lower total dipole, this effect seems to depend on the other conditions such as the pH and the presence of defect in the membranes [4, 5].References[1] Abramovich, A., et al.
